Membership
WLA’s bylaws provide that full membership is open to any person admitted to any state bar. Associate membership is available to persons enrolled in a school of law or a graduate school of law but not yet admitted to a state bar.
Each member is entitled to one vote on each matter submitted to a vote of the members. Among other issues, members vote to elect the Board of Directors. Elections are held in July and are followed by the annual meeting of the members in August.

Dues
Members must be current in the payment of dues to be in good standing (i.e. entitled to vote). Dues are payable annually in September and delinquent after December.

*Proceeds from additional dues paid by Black Robe, Gavel, and Scales of Justice Members will be donated to the WLA Foundation for WLA's charitable activities including the Linda J. Murphy Scholarship Fund for women law students.

Become a WLA Board Member - Nomination Period Open 5/1 - 5/31
Every year, the WLA Board of Directors changes to make sure the current board best represents the current membership. Nominations for the Board are every year between May 1 & May 31. You can nominate yourself, you can nominate someone you know, you can nominate someone for more than one position, you can nominate yourself for all of the positions.
WLA is a great organization and it needs you and your friends' energy to keep up the good work. The current board members encourage you and everyone you know to get involved and run for a board position. The following positions on the WLA Board will be filled by election. Please review the descriptions of positions when considering running for office.
Board Nomination Petition

President-Elect: shall oversee preparation of the monthly newsletter and be responsible for any and all duties pertaining to the business of the organization as may be prescribed by the Board of Directors. The President-Elect shall assume the position of President in the following year.
Vice-President: shall be responsible for the development and operation of all social and educational events for the year as directed by the President and President-Elect and prescribed by the Board. The Vice-President shall be assisted by all other Board members, and specifically by the members-at-large.
Secretary: shall keep a record of the proceedings of all meetings and of all other matters of which the organization deems that a written record is advisable; shall conduct the correspondence of the organization as prescribed by the Board. The Secretary shall keep the corporate minutes, notify Board members of their election, keep a roll of all members and issue notices of all meetings.
Treasurer: shall collect and disburse the funds of the organization in a timely manner under direction of the Board; shall keep regular monthly accounts and shall be responsible, with the President, to provide a yearly budget. The treasurer shall report to the organization at least annually and shall report to the Board as often as requested.
Board Members-at-large (six positions): shall organize and arrange the social and educational activities of the organization and be primarily responsible for seminars and other function responsibilities to which they are assigned. Each Board member-at-large must take charge of at least one program per year, and serve as a Board liaison to a committee. Each member-at-large shall be responsible for one or more of the following committees: newsletter, legislative, holiday party and charity auction, CLE, scholarship, membership/directory, golf tournament, public relations/media, and diversity.
